Goblin in the Woods
by Lori
When I was in my teens in about 1980, I went camping with a large group in the California Redwoods. A few of us built a hut out of fallen logs to sleep in. I woke up in the middle of the night. I had the sensation that I was being watched. So I lay there with my eyes open and stared through the hole of the hut.
I saw a green, translucent face peek at me. At first I didn't believe what I was seeing. He kept peeking around the corner, like peekaboo. It wasn't human, and its eyes were evil. Then he just stared and I was so scared I closed my eyes. Because it was looking right at me and it saw that I saw and it smiled. Then when I looked again it was gone.
It looked just like those goblins in Lord of the Rings, only smaller -- I'd say about 3 or 4 feet. It was not solid. It was green translucent, if that makes any sense. Like a dark green outline, but I could see features. I have never forgotten those eyes. Malice is the best way I can describe it.

Floating Head
by Camille
Everybody said that house was creepy, haunted, a ghost house. Everyone said so and had a good story about it... things that had apparently happened to people, but of course it was just for fun. Silly stories. I thought it must always be like that everywhere. In every village there must be a "haunted house" and stories about it. But then we walked in front of the house and started chatting, talking about how the ghost stories were funny, but just silly jokes. I looked inside through the windows, checking if there had been any new or moved furniture.
Then I looked into that small eyelike window, typical of old french houses, and I saw, just there, a head without a body -- white, seemingly ageless (if I had to give it an age, I'd say it looked 40) and belonging to a man -- float right behind that window, from left to right, stop right in the middle of it, turn almost mechanically until it was facing me, look at me straight in the eyes, its expression completely unchanged, nearly bored (as if it simply noticed me), and then turn back to its original position and continuing to float to the left of the window until it disappeared.
I was so terrorized when it looked at me straight in the eyes, because I was very conscious that I was at five steps from that house and it could do anything to me... kill me, eat me, wound me very badly... particularly because I wasn't moving. I was so terrorized I was stuck to the ground. Of course, I tried to tell the girls, but they didn't believe me. "Yeah, right, just another story, like we're going to believe you..." I was 13 at the time and I did not drink or smoke. And one can say it's because "I was in the mood", but I know what I saw was as real as you and I.

Shadow and Wraith
by Nicole
I'm not sure if it's paranormal or psychological, but I've been told I take after my grandma who was a "sensitive". I've had a few experiences, but the one that stands out in my head the most was one night I woke up in the middle of the night to two somewhat solid "apparitions" standing at the corner of my bed, just looking at me without saying anything. I became wide awake and shot straight up in bed.
The one figure was a solid black shadow in the shape of a human that only made slight movements in the same spot. The other was my husband. The only problem was my "real" husband was fast asleep right next to me. It was so real and lasted for a minute or two, and then they both faded away slowly at the same time, just as I went to wake up my husband next to me.
I remember not being afraid and felt calm, but very curious. I also got the feeling that the "shadow person" was my brother-in-law who had passed away a year earlier after falling to his death from a ten-story window.

UFO on the Roof
by Missy
My story begins in a small town in southwest Oklahoma named Frederick. It was a hot evening in August, 1990. I was 16 years old. I am now 33. A friend and I were sitting on some benches in the city park talking when we heard a loud screech. The sound seemed far off, but close enough to catch our attention. We wondered and discussed what the sound could have been. My friend, who was of Mexican descent, joked that it could be a "witch". He explained to me about the Lechuza, as it is called, and is said to be an evil witch who can turn into a large bird. He also said that she would hunt, scare, and possible hurt someone if they taunted her. So me and my BIG mouth started yelling stuff such as, "Shoo shoo, you ugly old hag. I ain't afraid of a darn bird." Actually, I used a lot more "colorful" words, but you can get the gist of if.
Anyway the screeching, which I must add was actually a sound I can't explain and have never heard anything similar since, grew louder and closer. Then we saw 'it". It was floating, not flying -- floating right above the tree lines. We were terrified, so we ran to my home, which was just a few blocks from the park. My grandparents, with whom I lived, heard the sounds as well. This thing apparently landed on our roof and stayed there for a few moments. We were all afraid because the sound of it landing made it colossal sound. We called the police, and by the time they arrived the thing was gone, but a few of the shingles had been ripped off and tossed to the ground. I have never in my life been that scared and I hope I never will again.
