Because I am so entangled into anime at school, online, etc., I've noticed that one of the MOST discussed topics anywhere is the comparison between dubs and subs. I really want to know what people think about this topic in Hokage's Room. I only want educated replies, so no "subs are better because they are the original or because the voices just sound right" comments. Only post if you have something thoughtful to post.
Personally, I have no problems with dubs at all. Sure, dubs will NEVER sound like the original Japanese, but they shouldn't have to, especially if you actually enjoy the anime thoroughly. Voices are something that everyone can get used to eventually after giving the dubs a chance. And as for the dubs not faithfully interpreting the Japanese script, that should also be something that could be overlooked. Yes, some terms are changed such as the "Drunken Fist" style of Rock Lee's to "Loopy Fist" or something, but are minor changes really going to dissuade you from watching the dubs?
Really, both dubs and subs have their differences, but should the "ORIGINAL" subs dissuade you from watching a different rendition of the anime once it's been dubbed in English? It's not like the whole plot or characters are going to be affected in any way that takes something of the character away from how they are represented in the original Japanese version. Usually, the case is that people just tend to like the subs better because they've gotten used to it and anything new brought to the character instigates digust. I totally understand that once people watch something in one language first, that will be their preference, but I don't understand why those same people have to bash dubs of the original rendition.
Obviously I am a dub supporter, but I really want to know other people's opinion on the matter. I REALLY want to understand why some people are SO attached to the subs that they aren't willing to give dubs a chance. Maybe it's just mindset and no matter what people on either side think, people can never understand the other side's position.
This topic has probably been discussed multiple times already but this time, I REALLY want thoughtful replies; therefore I am asking the question again.
