Tiger Threats

Tiger Threats

So I was just told today about "Tiger Threats".

Evidently people have been using my name in threats toward one another in the forums.  Things like, "I'm going to tell TigerC10 if you don't do what I say" or "I'll tell TigerC10 right back on you".

I want you all to know that this is highly inappropriate behavior.  If you see someone breaking the rules, simply make a report and don't say anything to the person that you're reporting.  You see, by telling the people you're reporting that you're reporting them - you "feed the troll" and you just end up making the person act out more and break the rules more.  Do not act as their catalyst.

I also want you all to know that I do not always act on reports.  Some reports are made about people who aren't breaking rules (this is usually because someone is throwing a hissy fit about having been reported) - and if there aren't any rules that are being broken there's nothing I can do.  I will not punish anyone who doesn't deserve it.

Furthermore, if anyone continually uses my name to threaten people I will take action against them for harassment.  For that matter if anyone continually makes threats like, "I'm going to report you if you..." I will also take action against them for harassment.

I'll say it one last time.  Do not attempt to "scare" anyone into doing anything (even if you're trying to "scare" them into following the rules).

Mission 44: Ultimate Ninja Storm

Ultimate Ninja Storm

Everyone is excited about Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm!  And who can blame them?  This is the most beautiful video game based on an anime that I've ever seen.  CyberConnect 2 developed a new pixel shading engine that makes the animation look more fluid than ever before.

UNS04.jpg

UNS17.jpg

As you can tell, the game is going to rock out loud as far as graphics go.  But it's not just the graphics!  The game does more than just blur the lines between anime and video game - it shatters the line.

Unlike the previous incarnations of Ultimate Ninja, the battle area will be fully explorable instead of being a forced into a flat fighting space like typical fighting games.

UNS08.jpg

UNS09.jpg

You can explore the entire Leaf Village like never before!

And as if that weren't enough, they've improved the jutsus!  To perform jutsus in the past, you had an endless sequence of buttons to press to judge the strength - but now you can actually press enough to gain "success" in jutsu completion.  Furthermore, there's a visible meter at the bottom of the screen to show whether or not the jutsu will be strong or weak (none of this having to glance at both players completed button presses before they disappear).

UNS05.jpg

UNS06.jpg

UNS07.jpg

And best of all, now there are two ultimate jutsus that you can perform in a battle instead of just one!

UNS13.jpg

UNS14.jpg

UNS15.jpg

UNS19.jpg

And check out the characters you can play as:

  • Naruto Uzumaki
  • Sasuke Uchiha
  • Sakura Haruno
  • Kakashi Hatake
  • Rock Lee
  • Neji Hyuga
  • Tenten
  • Might Guy
  • Shikamaru Nara
  • Choji Akimichi
  • Ino Yamanaka
  • Kiba Inuzuka
  • Shino Aburame
  • Hinata Hyuga
  • Gaara
  • Kankuro
  • Temari
  • Orochimaru
  • Jiraiya
  • Tsunade
  • Third Hokage
  • Itachi Uchiha
  • Kisame Hoshigaki
  • Kabuto Yakushi
  • Kimimaro Kaguya

But wait!  There's more!  In Ultimate Ninja 3 you were able to summon beasts and fight against them.  But if both people summon, the summon beasts can ALSO fight it out.  Expect for some very LARGE scale battles to take place.

UNS21.jpg

There's one final improvement on the battle engine that I want to touch on, and that's teaming up.  That's right, the teams help each other instead of switch out between battles.  If you're playing as Naruto and your opponent has you in a beat down and you can't get out, you can call in Sakura or Sasuke to assist and get your opponent off your back.

UNS18.jpg

All of these features will make this game will be the greatest Naruto video game ever created.

Hacker Help: Hard Drive Size Issue

Welcome to the second issue of "Hacker Help".  Today I recieved a question about the sizes of hard drives.

why is it that when you get so much memory its never right? i have an 80 gig ps3 but it only came with 76 gigs and my computer (both old and new hard drives) had "500 gigs" but the one that came with it only had 496 gigs and the new one i have in here only has 465 gigs...how does this happen?

First let me tell you, there's nothing wrong with your hard drive.  It isn't broken or anything.  The problem that you're seeing is that software doesn't measure the "giga" measurement value properly.

This is how software measures the giga measurement:
80 gigabytes = 85,899,345,920 bytes

However "giga" really just means billions, and hardware manufacturers measure giga as:
80 gigabytes = 80,000,000,000 bytes
(this is the correct measurement)

This means you "lose" 5,899,345,920 bytes because of how software doesn't really know what a "giga" is:
5,899,345,920 bytes = 5.49419403 gigabytes

Which means out of an 80GB drive your software should only see 74~75GB.

Next you have the table of contents problem, but just what is this problem?  Well, have you ever noticed that it takes longer to create/download a file than it does to delete a file?  The hard drive has two sections of data, the first section just contains detail information like the file name and creation date.  The second section is the actual file (this would be like all of the pages you write in a book report that you save on your computer).

Among all of the details like "filename" and stuff in the first section, there is also a detail which tells the computer where the actual file is located in the second section.   This is why they named the first section of a hard drive the "table of contents".  This is also why it takes less time to delete a file from your computer than to download one, because all you delete is the table of contents record and eventually another file will be able to take up that spot.

Naturally, this table of contents also takes up some of the space on your hard drive.  However in most cases the table of contents is not very large.  The only time you'll lose a significant amount of space on a hard drive due to the table of contents is if you partition the hard drive out into two or three different parts (this is usually done by people if they want to run two different operating systems on one computer).

But that's not where it ends.  You see, there are also imperfections in the manufacturing process, sometimes you get more than 80,000,000,000 bytes in an 80GB drive, and sometimes you get less. You can gain or lose up to 2GBs because of these imperfections.  Western Digital and Fujitsu make some high quality drives that usually end up with more than 80,000,000,000 bytes.  I've had very poor luck with hard drives made by Seagate.

Finally the larger the hard drive is, the easier it is to break. Hard drives are divided up into sections called "sectors".  The more sectors that go bad, the less space you'll have on the hard drive.  Depending on the material used for the hard drive, some of the sectors of the hard drive could go bad based on how hot it gets during the time it's shiped to the store (while on the trucks) and even if the boxes holding the hard drives aren't handled properly (dropped).  The sectors can also go bad if you write/overwrite too many times to that particular sector. This is usally only a problem if you buy a really cheap hard drive because it will be generally be made of a really cheap material that goes bad easily.

Everyone feels like they're being cheated out of money when they buy a hard drive and don't get the "full" amount that's advertised on the box.  Now you know that you're not really being cheated out of money, and that the real problem is that software lies to you about what a gigabyte really is.  When you get down to it, this is just the reality of the world and there's nothing that can really be done about it.

If you or anyone else you know has a computer related question, please send me a private message and it may end up in "Hacker Help".

Keina's Strength

So I made a new song.  It took about 2 weeks to get done and there's still one section I'd like to improve on, but I think it's good.

Check out:
