  • Justice is served... Again?

    Mar 5, 2010

Anyway, so some of you from way back (if anyone's still here, even!) may know that a while ago that myself, and an old mod Daikon used to be a part of a group we made that we labeled "Hokage's Room Justice", or HRJ for short. It pretty much involved finding out people who caused trouble on Hokage's Room, and doing our best to put a stop to it... Ie; people who try to steal passwords, really bad trolls, people who just go picking fights, theives, etc.

So I've noticed that in this period of hibernation there's much more bickering on blogs about stupid things, there are people pretending to be who they're not, just general problems. Now I've heard of little stories of people being "hacked", but no idea if any of that's true, I just figured with all that's going on and the fact that I assume we're going to come out of Hibernation sometime soon it may as well be a good time to start up HRJ again.

Meaning, my blog will be dedicated to finding threats in HR and putting a stop to them. Any help that I can get is appreciated and if you're willing to lend a hand for a good cause, just keep an eye out for any problems. If you see something you think needs looking into, PM me- I mean, if it's something we need to figure out, get proof on if someone's faking a mission submission (in the future obviously), etc.

So, to sum it all up, starting up HRJ again in an attempt to make Hokage's Room a better place. With over 32,000 members, there's obviously gonna be some problems... and there's gonna be some people to help fix it!

  • Three kinds of blogs that really annoy me

    Feb 19, 2010

Now before you read this, please note this entry is just an attempt at dry satirical humor. It is in no way directed at anyone in particular, and if I've offended you with it, sorry about that, that was not the purpose at all.

Moving on though, here are the examples of blogs, and the explanations.

    2gubdqt.jpg

    The Senseless Complainer
The senseless complainer will take one small flaw in their life and escalate it as far as humanly possible, then rant about it... a lot. Don't expect any of the stories to make sense, just like the one in the example. However, you should expect a lot of angry faces, caps, and exclamation points.

    mv3fok.jpg

    The Look At Me! Kid
The look at me kid's one goal is to fish for compliments. It doesn't matter if it's them or not, it usually isn't. It's very common for the look at me kid to google image search "emo hair", post the first image they find, do a really lousy attempt at pretending it's them and then post it in their blog. The worst part about this is that a lot of people believe them.

    2eb9ttc.png

    The Wannabee Mod
Their one goal in life is to become a moderator. No, seriously. They think that being a moderator is the most amazing possibility in the world, and are seriously willing to give up all hints of a social life for it. Of course, they don't realize that the majority of their kind will not only not become a moderator, but isn't fit for the job.

Like I said before, they're not directed at anyone in particular- honestly- just figured I'd take a more creative approach to venting about one of my biggest HR Pet Peeves. If you have more types of blogs that annoy you, or disagree with something I wrote, feel free to say so.

  • Dealing with Spam Accounts

    Feb 18, 2010

There have always been a few spam accounts looking to harass some people here on Hokage's Room. I've noticed that a lot of people have been flipping out about them, take them seriously, or who knows what. If you're unfamiliar with what I'm speaking of, think about this. Have you ever gotten a PM along the lines of this?

My Dearest One! Greetings to you, I hope this mail will find you well &
healthy and I hope we can established a relationship since we are meeting here for the first time, have gone through a dating site profile that speaks good of you I was impressed when i saw your profile and decide to communicate with you. It is my desire to know you, I like honest, trust, love, caring, truth,& respect, I have all this qualities in me,kindly respond to me through my private mail box (xxxxxxxxxx@xxxxx.com) so we can know ourselves better. I hope to read from you if your are also interested. Thanks and hoping to hear from you
    soonest. EMAIL: (xxxxxxxxxx@xxxxx.com) NAME:Xxxx

No? What about something like this?

    Hello.
My Name is xxxx I was impressed when i saw your profile at www.hokagesroom.com
and i will like you to email me back to my in box so that i can send you my
picture for you to know who i am . i believe we can establish a long lasting
relation ship with you. In addition,i will like you to reply me through my
private email box xxxxxxx@xxxx.co.uk).This is because i don't know the
possibilities of remaining in forum for a long time. Thanks, waiting to hear from
    you soonest.
    xxxx

Of course filling in the "x"es with the person's name, website, etc. A message in broken English, talking about some confusing things and they're interested in a relationship, or a friendship, or some strange something...

Well my friend, you have no need to reply with "Who the heck are you?!" and no need to take it seriously either. This is just a mass spam sent out to whoever they can. There's no real dating profile they found you on, and it's likely not even a real person. It's more than likely you've got them before, and if you haven't, consider yourself lucky. They can get very annoying.

So what do you do when you get one? Simple. No need to freak out or blog about who it is and how dumb they are, just delete it, and if you feel the need report it. I just figured I'd give you guys a little heads up on these things, so now if you didn't know before, you know what to expect and maybe have a little idea of what to do.

  • Profile Info Cards

    Jan 16, 2010

I don't know if that trend is still "in", where you make a little info card with your name, some pictures and info about yourself, and put it on your blog or profile, but I figured to kick off my little "Active Hibernation" idea, my first project will be a Profile Card maker. It's a flash application that lets you easily make your own card based off a template. You type in your name, posts, etc, into the proper slot, get to choose a theme, background, pictures, and then you can put little "stickers" onto it. I think it's a decent idea and one of many more flashes to come. Opinions?

  • Hibernation? Lets make it interesting.

    Jan 13, 2010

So, I was talking with TigerC10, and something occurred to me. It's hibernation, which is usually boring. Why not spice it up a bit? So I decided to put some of my computer programs and spare time to work. Over the hibernation-- and this is just an idea, mind you-- I may try to make a series of flash animations based off of Hokage's Room. Every week a new animation would show, and maybe go along with some sort of contest. Tiger said he'd also think of something so it'd be a double whammy for an awesome hibernation. Thoughts anyone, any ideas?

  • MS Paint Tricks - 1 - "Custom Brushes"

    Jul 29, 2009

I noticed that a good 80% (give or take a little) of mission submissions are made in MS Paint. Seeing how so many people use it, I figured I'd share a few cool tricks and features of MS Paint that not many people know about.

To start off this mini-blog series, "Custom Brushes" in MS Paint. In Photoshop, you're able to use different brushes instead of just circle and square. Well, here's a trick to get your own makeshift brushes, even though they may be temporary.

    Step 1
Make a new document in paint. Start making a design (nothing too detailed, unless you want to). That design will be your "brush".

    11t8t2g.jpg

    Step 2
Zoom out (that is, if you were even zoomed in, like I was). Then, use the selection tool (top right) to select the design. Make sure you have the transparency box clicked.

    imkl6d.jpg

    Step 3
Hold down the Shift key on your keyboard. Now, drag around your mouse- you should now be "brushing" with the design you made. Here's what I made with my custom brush.

Try this trick with different designs, and see what you can come up with!

  • The Knowing

    Mar 29, 2009

I just got back from seeing The Knowing for the second time with a few friends from school. You may or may not have heard of it, I myself didn't see many advertisements about it. It's the movie with Nicolas Cage in it, if that helps. Anyway, so when I was first told a while ago when we were first gonna see "The Knowing" I was like 'Oh, whoopie.' I looked it up and it was a sci-fi, but I went anyway.

My first impression was totally wrong. Now, I have to say: The Knowing is one of, if not my favorite movie. It was amazing all around, despite any bad reviews it may have been given. The plot was thourough and kept you guessing (though ironically, it was about numbers that knew what was going to happen), the performances were great, and most of all the effects were grade-A.

In 1959, Lucinda Embry (Lara Robinson) suggested for her elementary class, to celebrate the new school opening, that they should have a time capsule. It would be opened in 50 years, and each child had to draw a picture of what they thought would happen in the future. Robots, rockets, and the likes were drawn by every child except Lucinda. She drew an extremely long series of numbers on the front and back of the paper. However, before she could finish, the paper was yanked from her by the teacher and put into the time capsule (which is important to know for the rest to make sense!).

50 years later, Caleb (Chandler Canterbury), son of Professor John Koelster (Nicolas Cage), gets an envelope out of the capsule and it's Lucindas. He opens it and is confused. That night, John examines it and connects the numbers with dates to worldwide catastrophes that had occurred from 1959 up until present time. It also shows how many people died. He also notices one thing, three of these events hasn't occured already.

If you plan to see the movie, don't read this part!
    **SPOILER**
One of these is a plane crash, that John happens to be at the location of. Then he realizes the number not only show dates of what happened and how many people died, but it also shows the location (lat & long). He barely avoids the crash and witnesses 81 people die. After this, he looks for info on Lucinda Embry and finds that she had died, so he meets Lucinda's daughter and grand-daughter.

He tries to find info about Lucinda from her daughter, Diana Wayland (Rose Byrne), but she denies everything and tries to get away from John, even though he told her of an event to occur the next day. The next day, as the numbers predicted, there was a train wreck. John had witnessed this, and the next day drove out to Diana's. She realized his words were true, and they looked into it and found out the backwards 'EE' meant 'Everyone Else'. It predicted the end of the world.. and that was the day they found out.

According to John (and the heat as of recently) there was going to be a solar flare that would wipe out all living organisms on the earth. John knew that Lucinda had scratched the numbers into a door in the bottom of the school gym with her nails, because the paper was snatched from her. He went to the school and took the door back to his shed to try to uncover the numbers. Diana wanted to take the children, Abby (said granddaughter, also Lara Robinson) and Caleb to underground caves where she believed there was a chance of survival.

But, I'm not gonna tell you the rest. You'll have to look that up, or better yet: See the movie yourself!
    **END SPOILER**

Point is.. great movie, I really enjoyed it, and would even see it a third time! Okay, maybe not.. but it was definitely a movie worth seeing.
