ISS = In School Suspension... It's like detention only more heafty on the school record.
I didn't know any other school districts had ISS. When I was in HS a few of my friends got ISS for some pretty lame reasons...
One guy wore a kilt to school to express his heritage and he got ISS for it. They said he was in clear violation of the dress code.
The problem is that the dress code didn't address gender. Nor does it even really have any place in the public school. As a matter of fact, the dress code was brought to court on three separate occasions - of which all three times the dress code was found to be against the constitutional rights afforded to not just the students in question but the students' parents. The schools were not forced to take their dress code policy away, for whatever reason (I have no clue, really). I would imagine that the dress code was left in place to prevent unruley disregard for appearance to the extreme that it is detrimental to the learning environment... Just a guess though.
