the akatsuki are dreaded because there full on level S rogue ninjas with great powers and unbelievable skill they also are in pursuit of the tailed beast witch can start a new ninja war

Akatsuki's goal is to get all the power in the world and make an organization to bring the world to a ruin. They want all the ninja world/country to battle each other and create war. To that, they are gathering tailed beasts, and unleaching them in the country to create a ruckus. So, they started off with Gaara, and that is where Gaara's Retreavel Arc has started, where Deidara and Sasori kidnapp Gaara, and extract the Bijuu -tailed beasts- from the jinnchuriki -tailed beast' host- from Gaara, but will Naruto and the others be in time to save Gaara, the only way to find out is to watch Naruto Shippuden or PLAY NARUTO SHIPPUDEN LEGENDS, AKATSUKI RISING!!!

the Akatuki are so dreaded cuz they wants the bijuu's (tailed beast) power to make a great war, so they then can get some ninjas working for them so they can earn money, or that's at least what Pain said

i'm changing the fact i stated before: Nagato (Pain), who's the leader of the akatsuki, wants all the bijuu so that he can take them from the jinchurikuu (even if it results in the jinchurikuu's dead), so that he can create a new kajutsu (did I spell wrong, I meant "Forbidden Jutsu", in case I didn't) that would destroy must of the nation, becuase he thinks that's the only way to stop all the wars in earth

this is a spoiler madara is leader is goal for akatsuk is to gather all bijuiand than  combine them to make the ten tails . the sage of the six paths was the jinchikenn to this but split its power into nine sources creating the bigjui . also concerning the moons eye plan madara want to create a giant tsukinomi on the moon to  become one with the world  and trap everyone in his illusion. lastly the moon is whats left of the ten tails.

akatuki is a group of S rank criminals trying to get all of the 9 tailed beast currently have 7 out of 9 almost caught the 8th but failed

the akatsuki are a group of evil s ranked criminals that will stop to obtain the 9 tailed beast and use for unimaginable power and destruction but i think the story can go deeper then capturing beast there have to be more to it
